Job Responsibilities

 

 

  • Coordinate and supervise all production activities (production planning, acquisitions, product manufacturing, quality standard application, etc.) on schedule. 
  • Optimize production (planning work interruptions, implementing systems, structures, tools, work methods, etc.) while never losing sight of deadlines, costs, quality and H&S.
  • Optimize production using ongoing improvement tools (5S, Kaizen, SMED, TPM, ISO, etc.).        
  • Manage and supervise employees under his responsibility. 
  • Identify risky situations and involve the employees in the preventive steps.
  • React adequately and promptly to the employees’ behaviour.
  • Be accountable for the employees’ behaviour and for the respect of the rules and procedures, and follow up on H&S (regular meetings, occupational health and safety committee, occupational health and safety action plan, audits, etc.).         
  • Participate in developing training programs for employees in his department and ensure transfer of knowledge.
  • Order Raw materials for the plant.
  • Monitor and order supplies to keep plant running efficiently.
     

 Secondary Responsibilities

  • Evaluate department processes. Recommend and coordinate needed changes based on process analysis.
  • Direct staff in the development, analysis, and preparation of reports.
  • Supervise staff in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Assist staff to resolve complex or out of policy operation problems.
  • Conduct interviews, hire new staff, and provide employee orientation.
  • Coach and provide career development advice to staff.
  • Establish employee goals and conduct employee performance reviews.
  • Responsible for staff scheduling to include: work assignments/rotations, employee training, employee vacations, employee breaks, overtime assignment, back-up for absent employees, and shift rotations.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources for appropriate staffing levels.
  • Schedule and conduct staff meetings.
  • Responsible to meet department productivity and quality goals. Communicate with other Supervisors and Managers.
  • Complete human resource paperwork.
  • Schedules and or performs calibrations for plant measuring instruments.
  • Monitors usage of utilities to ensure efficiency of operations.
  • Oversees sanitation of facilities and grounds as Plant Sanitarian. Supervises & trains sanitation staff in frequency and methods of cleaning. Maintains MSDS for all chemicals used in the Lab and Production and trains employees on their use.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 

Desired experience

  • Bachelors degree is desired
  • Experience in support of team members of a manufacturing production operation is desired

 

Ability to:

  • Master equipment settings and particularities in order to effectively manage various plant operations (know the equipment, processes, chemical products, ordering, raw materials, etc.).
  • Master and apply methods used to maintain continuous improvements (Kaizen, SMED, etc.).
  • Master and apply quality test follow-up and interpretation methods.
  • Master and apply the Cascades’ philosophy and collective/mutual agreements.
  • Be able to set priorities and handle requests regarding production supervision.
  • Know and apply the H&S laws and regulations, the safety procedures, the danger analysis and the management of accident process, the methods of entering confined spaces, the lock-outs, etc.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Working conditions are normal for a production environment. Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
