The Tissue Group, a division of Cascades, is the second-largest tissue producer in Canada and the fifth-largest in North America. The Division manufactures, converts and markets a huge selection of paper products, such as hand towels, bathroom tissue, facial tissue, napkins, paper towels, wipers and dispensers for the North American away-from-home and consumer products markets. The Group has more than 2,200 employees and operates seven manufacturing plants, nine conversion plants and four plants with both manufacturing and conversion facilities.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Perform a variety of duties as assigned to maintain the linerboard machine and the mill’s equipment.
  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of mill equipment during unplanned shutdowns and perform scheduled and planned maintenance repairs of equipment.
  • Execute machining and welding responsibilities as requested.  MIG/TIG welding capabilities preferred.
  • Perform a range of mechanic skills that includes, but is not limited to, hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and troubleshooting of the same and other pieces of equipment.  Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills necessary.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and manuals to perform required maintenance.
  • Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments.  Perform refurbishments as requested.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on machines and equipment throughout the mill.
  • Safely use all hand and power tools.  After onsite training and certification, safely use aerial lift equipment, rigging, fall protection, etc.
  • Detect faulty or failing equipment, and report any unusual situations to proper supervision.
  • Comply with all mill safety responsibilities and maintain clean and orderly work areas.  Contribute to enhancing an interdependent safety culture.
  • Strong communication skills, and a team-player attitude.
  • Available to work 12 hour rotating shifts, weekends and holidays, overtime and call-ins


Work Environment

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently exposed moving mechanical parts.  The employee will be exposed to a hot work environment (in excess of 80 degrees Fahrenheit), with occasional exposure to the outside elements and inclement weather.  Exposure to excessive noise and some hazardous materials.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.  This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, pulling and/or pushing, and climbing all day.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 75 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to read, speak and write English.  The employee must be capable of controlling emotions (remain calm under physically or emotionally stressful conditions), and must be able to effectively manage stress.  The position requires an employee to make safety judgments for the bodily safety of the employee and/or others.  The position requires an employee to understand all risks and purposefully and mindfully act on a daily basis to mitigate them.



Required Education and Experience

  • Minimum of five plus years of applied maintenance experience in a large-scale industrial environment.
  • Maintenance education or training (Boces, trade school, etc) a plus. HSD/GED Required.
