Your challenge!


Reporting to the Director of Administration with dotted line responsibility to the Plant Manager, serve as a financial specialist and contribute to the unit’s business development, while ensuring coordination in keeping with the group’s strategic plan.  In this role you will play an active role in the daily operations to guide production and inventory management, costs and variances. The Plant Controller ensures an effective control structure to minimize business risks and identify opportunities to reduce unit cost.


Job Responsibilities


  • Responsible for  all financial processes to ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) as well as Cascades procedures and process including SOX compliance
  • Leadership and development of direct reports
  • Leadership guidance and support to management teams to ensure understanding of all financial processes and costing along with reporting requirements
  • Strong Leadership providing guidance in budget process, and monthly budget management
  • Coordination with centralized shared services of accounting transactions, i.e. invoicing, payables, receivables and information systems
  • Establish and interpret relationships between financial results and operational performance to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Prepare "Capex" proposals, track spending of capital funds
  • Manage month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing



  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Accounting, finance, economics, etc. with a concentration in accounting
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in accounting role that includes at least 3 years supervision
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment with cost account strongly preferred
  • Able to guide and train others
  • Excellent knowledge of Excel and other software
  • Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines
  • SAP experience desired



Operational Excellence

Determine and interpret the relationship between financial results and operational performance to identify improvement opportunities

Analyze operational and financial performance indicators to contribute to the unit’s decisions

Maximize use of the unit’s working capital

Help the unit’s management team implement and monitor business processes (including the budget process, analyses, and communication of internal and external financial information)

Implement financial, sales, administrative and accounting management best practices that apply to the unit

Plan and lead the reengineering of the Group’s business processes in the unit

Human Resources

Help develop the skills of the employees and succession teams reporting to him/her

Manage and engage employees based on Cascades’ values and business strategy

Health & Safety

Develop and maintain a healthy and safe work environment for all of his/hers unit’s employees

Promote sound occupational health and safety management

Maintain an effective control structure to minimize business risks related to operations and fraud

Guarantee the financial information produced is reliable and complete
