Technical Expert (Converting)

Your challenge

Reporting to the General Manager, the Operations Support - Technical Professional is tasked with carrying out complex technical projects in their area of expertise. In addition, you will master and use your technical expertise in project preparation, specifically with respect to technical standards and benchmarks in your field. You will also provide your colleagues with advice within the scope of your expertise when assignments are made. The expectation is the candidate will be a self-directed individual, and as such needs a wide array of leadership, functional / technical and organizational skills. 

Functions

This position functions as an internal consultant, and is expected to develop projects and produce improvement in operations ranging from stockprep, tissue production, converting operations and packaging. The duties range widely between safety leadership, troubleshooting, optimization, teaching, deliberate improvement projects, capital projects, process audits, strategic studies, and mentoring. Performance measurements include:

  • Ability to contribute to, and deliver improving safety results, with a specific emphasis in the area of expertise
  • Ability to rapidly and accurately diagnose and resolve operating malfunctions, either onsite and or remotely
  • Reduction in consumption of direct raw materials, energy, and labor
  • Improvement in production, reliability, availability and quality above historical limits and to world-class levels
  • Ability to interface with and technically develop and mentor others within the area of expertise
  • Ability to drive results and self-manage priorities on multiple simultaneous projects
  • Must be able to travel 75% of the time within the Cascades Tissue US

  • Participate in the preparation of a list of deliverables and follow-up tools
  • Share your knowledge and the standards applicable to your speciality
  • Provide technical support to partners and external clients
  • Take part in the establishment of good practices
  • Adhere to pre-established objectives, timelines and budgets
  • Ensure that the various teams adhere to the procurement process in place

  • Tissue Converting technologies including rewind through packaging
  • Tissue papermaking experience including properties from stockprep to finished goods
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Pulp and Paper 
  • Experience can be combined with education or in lieu of education
