CASCADES CONTAINERBOARD PACKAGING

The Containerboard Packaging Group, a division of Cascades, is the largest containerboard producer in Canada, and is also a top converter of corrugated products in the country. The Group manufactures a wide range of products made from recycled fibres for its North American customers in the food, beverage and consumer products sectors, among many others. The Division, which employs close to 3,400 people, owns six containerboard mills and nineteen corrugated products plants in Canada and the United States.

Your challenge!

Reporting to the Business Unit Controller, you will be responsible for conducting variance analysis for two of our containerboard packaging locations (Schenectady, New York and Piscataway, New Jersey). You will work closely with each Unit/Sales Controller and will also be responsible for all accounting functions associated with the accurate recording and reporting of costs. The successful candidate will be detail oriented, highly motivated, and willing to learn. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for conducting variance analysis for two manufacturing converting plants;
  • Assist the Controller of the Schenectady plant and the Contoller of the Piscataway plant with all accounting functions associated with the accurate recording and reporting of costs of manufacturing;
  • Develop and prepare reports which compare actual results to plan and provide accurate information to operating departments and management to provide a sound quantitative basis for management decisions;
  • Participate in identification of operating performance issues and take an active role in developing solutions to improve performance levels;
  • Participate in the budgeting process including working with other departments to ensure accurate cost data;
  • Play an active role in the month-end close process for both the Schnectady and Piscataway converting plants. 
  • Ensure compliance with all activities related to accounting processes, policies and procedures. Constructively challenge current processes to continually improve.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 1-5 years of relevant experience.
  • SAP OR manufacturing experience.

Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (both verbal and written); able to effectively communicate with all levels of management, both internally and externally.
  • Must possess strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced and results oriented environment.
  • Maintains the highest level of confidentiality.

Additional information

This position is located in Schenectady, NY but will require frequent travel to Piscataway, NJ.
