Maintenance Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for managing the daily maintenance activities and performing preventative activities for the plant.  This will involve coordinating various repairs and maintenance projects within the plants, shops and for off-site equipment.  Position provides direction to Maintenance Department staff as required.  Will be required to travel to all plant locations as required and/or other Company locations as deemed necessary by management.

 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure a safe work environment by adhering to all applicable Health and Safety Regulations   and Company Safety Rules and Policies.
  • First point of contact for plant managers for maintenance trouble shooting and/or other significant maintenance or equipment issues.
  • Responsible for managing and coordinating the maintenance, troubleshooting, overhauling and repairing all plant equipment in all the plant locations in order to ensure minimal downtime. This may include the baler(s), conveyor(s), sort line and associated equipment, off-site equipment and all other related equipment.
  • Establishing employee schedules and performs the required preventative maintenance and servicing (PM Program) for all stationary plant equipment. 
  • Complete all the paper work (PO’s, daily worksheets, etc.) necessary to develop, implement and maintain all of the records to support the PM Program.
  • Direct and assist contractors as required.
  • Work with blueprints, sketches, and technical drawings.
  • Develop, maintain and manage the spare parts inventory for all the plants’ and offsite equipment.
  • Perform cutting, grinding, fabricating and welding as required.
  • Coordinate the overall manpower of the Maintenance Department staff to ensure required maintenance work is being completed in a timely and effective manner. 
  • Improve the efficiency of the Maintenance Department by assigning staff to specific areas of responsibility and ensuring all staff has been properly trained.
  • Responsible for proper documentation and reporting of personnel issues.
  • Administer staff performance reviews in coordination with the Human Resources Department.
  • Coordinate with the Human Resource Department on disciplinary issues that arise and attend disciplinary meetings as required.
  •  Responsible for housekeeping in the Maintenance Department and project sites.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Must have completed technical school training in a related discipline and/or possess journeyman status as a Millwright or Industrial Mechanic. 
  • Training as a welder/fabricator would also be an asset.

Experience:

  • Must be aware of all safety standards and requirements for maintenance work.
  • Several years’ experience in a manufacturing or related industry.  Previous experience with equipment used in the recycling industry and with related mobile equipment would be a definite asset.
  •  3 – 5 years of proven supervisory experience

Skills:

  • Good knowledge of electrical and hydraulic components.
  • Must be able to work well in an unsupervised environment and as part of a project team.
  • Proven troubleshooting ability with emphasis on safety and reliability.
  • Must be well organized.
  • Good communications and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong computer knowledge such as (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)
  • Knowledge of welding would also be an asset.
  • Previous supervisory experience

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Plant environment – exposure to dust, wet/rain, hot and cold temperatures, noise, etc.
  • Normal plant maintenance environment with a percentage of the time spent in an office environment.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS (if required):

  • May be required to perform general maintenance work for training purposes.  Some computer usage.
