The Shift Supervisor’s mission is to achieve the operational efficiency objectives associated with the business unit.  You closely monitor operating parameters and help develop an action plan to close performance gaps or resolve anomalies.

Individual responsibilities


  • Monitor and sustain high safety standards
  • Facilitate start of shift safety meetings and ensure safe work practices are followed during assigned shifts
  • Monitor and promote meeting production expectations.  (ie. Centerline, tons produced, wastewater treatment, equipment running at expected capacity, assisting team with problem solving, etc.)
  • Continually learn and grow in understanding the paper making process and associated equipment
  • Manage day to day issues and follow the escalation process as needed
  • Review daily staffing and complete call-in process to cover absences
  • Review and approve timecards in a timely manner for assigned crews/employees
  • Support and monitor projects and trials as needed during assigned work shifts
  • Ensure implementation of initiatives put in place by the LCT
  • Complete daily handoff to the LCT, next shift supervisor, and employees
  • Ensure thorough communication between shifts to ensure continuity of programs, projects, and processes
  • Assist with and give feedback on new hire and existing employee training progress
  • Monitor active systems and ensure response to alarms and system issues
  • Maintain site security and employee safety by being in production areas and ongoing facility walk through activities
  • Build and maintain employee relations by listening and responding to employee concerns and by communicating employee issues to the LCT

Experiences and strengths


  • Experience in supervision in the manufacturing sector
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing (an asset)
  • Leadership and a collaborative spirit 
  • Ability to solve problems and prioritize daily tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong listening skills to quickly understand needs and issues
  • Ability to act and react quickly while working on a number of files at the same time
  • Sound judgment and the courage to make the necessary decisions
