CASCADES CONTAINERBOARD PACKAGING

The Containerboard Packaging Group, a division of Cascades, is the largest containerboard producer in Canada, and is also a top converter of corrugated products in the country. The Group manufactures a wide range of products made from recycled fibres for its North American customers in the food, beverage and consumer products sectors, among many others. The Division, which employs close to 3,400 people, owns six containerboard mills and nineteen corrugated products plants in Canada and the United States.

Your challenge!

 

The Structural/Packaging Designer is responsible for creating new and innovative custom packaging concepts specific to customer packaging needs. The successful incumbent  uses analytical skills to layout a specialty gift line with packaging solutions. The Designer,  proficient in the use 2D Software-Artios CAD, will develop and design corrugated packaging  Work with vendors on new concepts providing detail on graphics required, box requirements, sizing requirements, and pricing; assist with concept mock up creation for samples/presentations.

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Manage and track all work in progress to maintain timelines for project completion.
  • Design/Create structural dielines in ArtiosCAD related to innovative corrugated packaging
  • Prepare files and requests using ArtiosCAD, SAP and CTI
  • Maintain the files for organization, storage and revisions for all design specifications for production:
  • Create and maintain project request forms and logs for quoting and tracking.
  • Track status on delivery, quotes and issues as needed
  • Determine sourcing needs in advance and communicate plan of action to get product in on time for production as well as revisions
  • Attend daily production team meetings to know customers demands and die issues
  • Research competitive market and trends in packaging using outside media reference material/sources.
  • Travel to customers locations as needed
  • Cascades is a Canadian-based corporation; occasional travel to Canada required
  • Occasional extended hours required to meet customer service levels

 

Typical Physical Demands:

  • Office environment, but will have access and need to work in the manufacturing facility when necessary
  • light to moderate lifting of paper products required, up to 35 pounds.
  • Use of equipment/machinery, to cut corrugated

 

Technical Competencies

 

  • Mechanical aptitude, ability to convey concepts with quick sketches and creative 2D problem solving skills.
  • MS Office computer skills: Excel, and Outlook
  • Creativity, organization, ability to multi- task and problem-solve.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and able to work well with others in a fast paced environment.
  • Self-starter and able to work with minimal supervision.
Desired experience

 

  • Bachelors degree preferred
  • 2D Artios CAD
  • SAP experience strongly desired
  • 2+ years packaging design including 1 or more years samples/ mock-ups
  • 1 or more years designing corrugated boxes
  • Proficient in Excel and Price/Cost Analysis
  • Final product design and package production.
