Engineering Intern (Quality/Continuous Improvement)

Job Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include but not limited to:

Our CI/Quality Intern will assist our CI/Quality Lead and CI/Quality Coordinator with data analysis, testing, and in-process projects. Projects may relate to:
Efficiency
Reducing machine downtime
Quality
Safety
Cost Reduction
Process Improvements
Assist CI/Quality Team with root cause analyses (RCA) for customer complaints, quality issues, and more.
Participate with multiple departments (operations, maintenance, logistics, etc.) on current continuous improvement projects.
Determine process capability, the inherent variability in our processes.
Complete regular TAPPI paper tests with reference samples to ensure testing equipment is compliant.
Attend regular quality and continuous improvement meetings.
Receive and carry out actions from quality and continuous improvement meetings.
Create standard operating procedures (SOPs) as needed to support current projects and quality improvements.
Collaborate with technicians to gain subject matter expert knowledge on current projects and quality improvements.


Learning Opportunities

Root Cause Analysis (RCA) principles & tools
Utilize Lean Six Sigma project management tools while assisting with current continuous improvement projects.
Understand how customer complaints are handled by shadowing & assisting the CI/Quality team as they investigate and act on complaints.
Learn meeting facilitation skills to encourage discussion and drive action.
Exposure to an industrial setting with a vast amount of equipment and processes
Further strengthen laboratory & analytical skills

Qualifications

•    Candidates working towards a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Paper Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Biochemistry Engineering, or Applied Statistics & Data Analytics
•    GPA 3.00 or higher
•    Ability to work in a manufacturing environment 
•    Ability to work independently and as a team
•    Ability to manage time to meet deadlines
•    Strong attention to detail
•    Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
•    Availability to work full time (40 hours/week), in-person for the Spring semester (Jan-May) or Spring/Summer (Jan-Aug) of 2024

Additional Preferred Qualifications
•    Experience working with any of the following Microsoft applications: Outlook, Visio, Power BI, Forms, Teams
•    Knowledge of statistics
•    Experience working with JMP
•    Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma principles and tools
•    Experience working in manufacturing
