Maintenance Supervisor

Your challenge!
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager - Operations, the Maintenance Supervisor - Operations is tasked with managing maintenance employees and subcontractors by ensuring the quality of their work. You will also participate in applying, maintaining and improving reliability system processes. You will apply good practices in the application of the planned work order schedule and ensure monitoring of OHS risks in your sector. You will also be responsible for engaging and developing your employees.


Job Responsibilities

  • The mechanical leader manages a crew of hourly mechanics responsible for preventative maintenance routes and corrective work on the run and scheduled for planned outages.
  • Schedules work for the department and follows up on work orders for completion status.
  • Assures that all Maintenance Team members adhere to all policies and procedures, with a strong focus on safety and quality.
  • Provides leadership and supervises the activities of the maintenance team ensuring efficient scheduling and prioritizing of workload.
  • Fosters dynamic relationships with the maintenance team members and their counterparts in production.
  • Ensures shift to shift maintenance issues/tasks/assignments are communicated.
  • Lead and/or participate in Continuous Improvement teams to improve production efficiencies and/or equipment reliability.
  • Maintain and review hourly employee timesheets to ensure accuracy.
  • Analyzes mechanical and operational problems of production equipment through personal observations, maintenance programs and operator feedback and plans and takes corrective actions. Walk the floor to review work or equipment in action. Review work plan for variances.
  • Coordinates, arranges, and supervises or provides for the completion of corrective and preventative maintenance in accordance with standard operating procedures, of all processing practices, and financial considerations of production equipment to minimize plant down time.
  • Coordinate tasks, critiquing on-going and finished work, sets priorities and other responsibilities as authorized.
  • Generates follow-up work orders from off conditions noted on Preventative or Emergency
  • Maintenance where a repair cannot be correctly completed.
  • Generates follow-up work orders from work lists.
  • Reviews Break Down Analysis and suggest plan of action or recommendation to root cause.
  • Maintains working relationship with Contractors and Vendors to maintain equipment reliability and keep abreast of equipment obsolescence and new technology. Maintain Vendor contact for sourcing and ordering materials and supplies for direct repair.
  • Responsible for maintaining skills flexibility matrices and training of maintenance mechanics. Develops resident subject matter experts.

Desired experience

  • To be successful, the preferred candidate will have a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related degree plus a minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a supervisory role.
  • Supervisory experience within a heavy 24/7 industrial manufacturing setting is a plus.

  • Ensure operational excellence and eliminate issues by making recommendations to his/her manager
  • Work with Production to coordinate and prioritize maintenance activities
  • Support his/her unit’s operational strategy

  • Help employees reporting to him/her to develop their skills and make sure they receive the necessary
  • training to carry out their responsibilities
  • Help maintain a positive work environment by walking the floor and fostering two-way communication
  • Manage and engage his/her staff based on Cascades’ values and business strategy
