The Tissue Group, a division of Cascades, is the second-largest tissue producer in Canada and the fifth-largest in North America. The Division manufactures, converts and markets a huge selection of paper products, such as hand towels, bathroom tissue, facial tissue, napkins, paper towels, wipers and dispensers for the North American away-from-home and consumer products markets. The Group has more than 2,200 employees and operates seven manufacturing plants, nine conversion plants and four plants with both manufacturing and conversion facilities.

Your challenge!

 

As a Process Engineer for the Eau Claire, WI mill you will have a diverse work load in support of the manufacturing needs for the Papermill & DeInk Plant. The successful candidate will partner with the Production Supervisors in their respective areas to determine best methods to ensure continuous operation of each asset. The person will collaborate with production employees, production supervisors, maintenance team and plant leadership team to provide guidance on support processes  and materials (commodity & specialty chemicals, production supplies, etc.) and ensure safe operations across the mill.

Job Responsibilities

Reporting to the Papermaking Superintendent, you will have the following main functions:

  • Work safely and efficiently when performing duties in pulp processing and papermaking
  • Establish, improve, and support safe work practices throughout the Papermaking & Deink Complexes
  • Develop a working knowledge of the mill’s operation from waste paper receiving through jumbo roll production in order to manage processes in papermaking, deinking, and provide fiber management support
  • Manage, optimize and maintain the chemical systems and inventory of the papermaking and deink areas
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities, including chemical trials and related projects
  • Manage and coordinate lab activities, including: supervision of lab technician, papermaking interns/co-op students, and vendor use of laboratory facilities
  • Develop and maintain professional relationship with suppliers and contractors providing service to the mill
  • Provide 24 hour support during specific weeks per rotating schedule of On Call Supervisor duties (8-week rotation)
  • Promote Cascades philosophy

Desired experience

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering disciple preferred
  • 0 – 3 years of experience as an engineer supporting Papermaking or related assets is desired
  • Strong organizational skills, initiative, and judgement
  • Detail-oriented
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Minimum 2 years people leadership experience
