Cascades Sonoco inc., Birmingham Division is looking for a Plant Manager. Reporting to the General Manager, the Plant Manager will take on the responsibility of all plant activities ensuring business objectives are met. The successful candidate will be accountable for all aspects of plant performance and will ensure that objectives are attained in a safe and cost-effective manner that’s consistent with quality requirements. The Plant Manager will lead the operation in synergy with Human Resources, Finance, Sales, customer satisfaction and product development.
- Promote sound occupational health and safety management and identify the unit’s OSH priorities in line with corporate objectives and follow up on them
- Personally commit to and display strong leadership in health and safety
- Plan, organize, increase production, assets capacity and flexibility while minimizing unnecessary costs and maintaining current quality and safety standards
- Develop and drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Implement strategies in alignment with strategic initiatives and provide a clear sense of direction and focus
- Be responsible for production output, product quality and on-time delivery
- Allocate resources effectively to ensure smooth operations
- Prepare budgets in collaboration with the Financial Controller
- Implement strategies in alignment with strategic initiatives and provide a clear sense of direction and focus
- Build and maintain a trusting relationship with employees and communicate about performance expectations
- Lead the management team; providing coaching and guidance to ensure engagement and development.
- Determine KPIs and measure them on a regular basis including OEE and Waste.
- 10 or more years experience managing a manufacturing unit
- Experience in the in Pulp & Paper and/or Extrusion Manufacturing
- Competency in business and management principles (budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation and people leadership and development)
- Familiarity with industry standard equipment and technical expertise
- Be knowledgeable of safety, quality, productivity, demand creation, inventory and stewardship processes
- Ability to create accountability and to lead by example
- Strong team building, decision-making and people management skills
