CASCADES CONTAINERBOARD PACKAGING

The Containerboard Packaging Group, a division of Cascades, is the largest containerboard producer in Canada, and is also a top converter of corrugated products in the country. The Group manufactures a wide range of products made from recycled fibres for its North American customers in the food, beverage and consumer products sectors, among many others. The Division, which employs close to 3,400 people, owns six containerboard mills and nineteen corrugated products plants in Canada and the United States.

Job Responsibilities

Business Objectives Alignment

Achieve the objectives in his unit’s business strategy

Develop and implement a business strategy for his unit in line with his business unit’s vision

Help implement a strategic plan for his market sector/region

Operational Excellence

Develop good relationships with business partners

Ensure that standardized best practices are implemented in all areas of activity

Maximize his unit’s operational efficiency (and sales, if applicable) and optimize resources

Maximize synergy and foster collaboration among Cascades’ groups, units and business units

Establish a continuous improvement structure in his unit

Establish operational efficiency objectives and achieve them via a performance review

Provide sound financial management and maximize the return on assets under his responsibility

Human Resources

Design and implement a talent development and succession strategy for his unit, in cooperation with Human Resources

Build a team of competent and dedicated people whose skills complement one another

Ensure that the work flow and job structure are tailored to his unit’s needs

Manage and engage his staff based on Cascades’ values and business strategy

Health & Safety

Accept the full responsibility that comes with his position in line with Cascades’ OSH requirements

Identify the unit’s OSH priorities in line with corporate objectives and follow up on them

Insist on and create a safe and healthy work environment for all his unit staff

Promote sound occupational health and safety management

Personally commit to and display strong leadership in health and safety

Corporate Responsibility and Governance

Ensure the sustainable and responsible development of the unit

Establish a structure complying with corporate governance rules and responsibilities

Insist on ethical conduct and uphold the values underlying Cascades’ corporate culture

Client Focused and Innovation

Ensure client satisfaction by tracking client offer performance indicators (products and services)

Develop his business network

Help build and maintain business relationships with his unit’s clients

Keep abreast of products and services offered by the competition, anticipate customers’ needs and stay up-to-date on manufacturing best practices and new technologies and share them within the organization

Participate in choosing his unit’s markets

Support his unit’s innovation objectives

Bachelor's degree in Operations Management or Business Administration

Desired experience

Minimum of 10 years of experience in a manufacturing environment with management experience, ideally in the packaging industry, with heavy emphasis on operational experience

Technical competencies

Excellent ability to assess priorities, align objectives with corporate strategy, and make critical decisions

Must be self-motivated, able to function autonomously, well organized, rigorous and efficient under pressure

Global vision of the market and aware of the competition’s activities

Strong communication skills

Excellent leadership, interpersonal, team building and problem solving skills

Good decision maker and efficient at managing priorities
