The Tissue Group, a division of Cascades, is the second-largest tissue producer in Canada and the fifth-largest in North America. The Division manufactures, converts and markets a huge selection of paper products, such as hand towels, bathroom tissue, facial tissue, napkins, paper towels, wipers and dispensers for the North American away-from-home and consumer products markets. The Group has more than 2,200 employees and operates seven manufacturing plants, nine conversion plants and four plants with both manufacturing and conversion facilities.

Your challenge!

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, and in close collaboration with the Technical Expert Director the Control Engineer's mission is to support his or her group, business partners and clients by carrying out specific interventions related to his or her field of expertise that respect Cascades' business objectives, deadlines and established budget. You use your technical expertise to perform rigorous diagnostics of operational processes and propose innovative and value-added solutions to your business partners and clients. Finally, you implement best practices in your sector to ensure customer satisfaction and your achievements’ sustainability through effective knowledge transfer within the company.

Individual responsibilities


  • Conduct comprehensive reviews to identify how operational processes can be improved
  • Propose recommendations and improvements based on your reviews
  • Monitor best practices in your field of expertise
  • Share knowledge related to your area of expertise
  • Adhere to Cascades’ business objectives



  • Demonstrate the ability to create a PLC program from a set of written process specifications.
  • Creates the design and leads the installation of all projects involving PLC’s.
  • Respect the control points established for each project, from the time the assignment is made to the time the project is finalized, following the different steps of the project management process
  • Adhere to project budgets and timelines
  • Fully proficient at troubleshooting DCS process related problems; interface with Production as necessary.
  • Can install and configure all DCS C200 controller hardware including I/O racks and individual I/O boards

Your background and strengths

Minimum of 3-5  years’ experience working in a similar role   
Practical knowledge in troubleshooting AC and DC motors, drives and starters
Degree or diploma in a technical discipline such as Process Control or Electrical engineering OR
A minimum of 3 years engineering technology experience in a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment.
