The Bear Island Mill is the newest addition to the Cascades Containerboard Packaging lineup. This state-of-the-art facility will offer one of the lightest high end, 100% recycled linerboard and medium products on the market. The mill is under construction and start-up is scheduled in December 2022.

Job Responsibilities


Before the Startup: 
In partnership with the project resources and centers of expertise, the Utilities Manager will be responsible for: 
•    Acting as a key contributor to the establishment and implementation of processes, practices, and tools specific to the Utilities department.
•    Ensuring optimal execution of operations by achieving targets in Occupational Health and Safety, production capacity, standardization of operating costs and quality
•    Build a mobilized and competent team and support their production efforts while nurturing a culture of continuous improvement and health and safety.
•    Collaborate with project partners in the recruitment, development and coaching of the personnel to ensure a robust team in the department to achieve the established goals. 

 Responsibilities after Startup: 
•    Develop and support the implementation of standardized best practices for operations, including the management of performance indicators
•    Maximize synergy and integration within Cascades’ various business units
•    Support the implementation of action plans and continuous improvement initiatives in the department
•    Develop sound relationships with business partners
•    Recommend the selection of production equipment and required modifications to optimize performance
•    Support the launch of new equipment
•    Oversee major testing in the unit
•    Contribute to resolving technical problems within the department
•    Support and manage investment projects, as required

Experience and Education

•    Bachelor’s degree in related field
•    Extensive experience in the management of powerhouse and/or effluent treatment plant  
•    Rigour and agility to handle projects based on their scope, budget and timelines
•    Ability to proactively address issues and problems by proposing solutions
•    Ability to support and advise business partners in analyzing their needs and finding solutions
•    Ability to carry out a number of projects simultaneously while respecting deadlines and priorities
•    Good analytical and problem-solving skills
•    Expertise and persuasiveness to encourage buy-in to proposed solutions
•    Agility needed to work with various technological tools
•    Knowledge of SAP software or other ERP (an asset)
