The Bear Island Mill is the newest addition to the Cascades Containerboard Packaging lineup. This state-of-the-art facility will offer one of the lightest high-end, 100% recycled linerboard and medium products on the market. The mill is under construction and start-up is scheduled in December 2022. 

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor/Maintenance Manager: 

Before the Startup: 

In partnership with the project resources and centers of expertise, the Senior Reliability Engineer will be a key contributor to the establishment and implementation of processes, practices, and tools specific to the Maintenance department.

Individual responsibilities

  • Participate in the realization of the unit's business strategy by analyzing equipment failures and proposing effective solutions to remedy them.
  • Performs root cause analyses for unplanned downtime greater than 180 minutes, or downtime for malfunctions that have happened for the third time.
    • Creates action plans for corrections.
    • Leads and trains others in different RCA practices
  • Develop training programs aimed at transferring knowledge of best practices in the field to your business partners.
  • Works with production on risk analysis from the most critical production functional locations to improve preventative maintenance.
  • Develops preventive maintenance methods and controls that preventive maintenance work orders are executed correct an in time.
  • Keep abreast of new technologies in preventive and predictive maintenance (PPM) to continually improve equipment reliability and contribute to achieving your department and other business units’ operational efficiency objectives.

  • Propose solutions to improve equipment reliability
  • Train Junior Reliability Engineer/Professionals
  • Assist in the Develop of Lubrication and Vibration Analysis Strategies for use in the Plant’s Reliability Centered Maintenance Programs

Experiences and strengths

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field (experience can be substituted for education)
  • Desire to generously share knowledge for the benefit of partners and colleagues
  • Strong ability to positively influence partners and colleagues and guide them towards best practices
  • An in-depth understanding of Reliability Centered Maintenance concepts
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in a paper mill environment is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with SAP strongly preferred.
