Senior Project Leader / Automation Engineer

Your challenge!

The Bear Island Mill is the newest addition to the Cascades Containerboard Packaging lineup. This state-of-the-art facility will offer one of the lightest high end, 100% recycled linerboard and medium products on the market. The mill is actually under construction and start-up is scheduled in December 2022. Prior to start up you will work closely with our paper machine drives and VFD suppliers and work with the team on assigned projects.

We’re looking for candidates who are interested in taking their automation skills to the next level. The ideal candidate’s experience in maintenance processes and preventative maintenance will help to ensure the continuous implementation of world class maintenance practices.

We are hiring NOW for this position and the successful candidate can expect to start immediately. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the production line’s troubleshooting in paper machine drive system and VFD. 
  • Perform as the key contact for production line availability and keeps updated on the appropriate SAP system statuses and production reports.
  • Observes the machine on the field.  In the event of a malfunction or abnormality in the machine, the engineer will perform corrective actions or creates notifications/work orders for shut down planning. 
  • Meets regularly with operators to collect comments or observations and works closely in cooperation with the production coordinators to ensure production and machine availability.
  • Performs configuration changes in cooperation with production and reports what has been done. 
  • Responsible for his or her area’s needed spare parts purchase requests.

 

Experience and Education

  • Minimum of a 2-year degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation or related field, or commensurate experience in an industrial automation environment
  • Experience with ABB drives and Rockwell VFD
  • Experience in pulp and paper
  • Rigour and agility to handle projects based on their scope, budget and timelines
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to set priorities
  • Keen sense of collaboration to communicate effectively with stakeholders from various levels of the organization
  • Leadership and expertise in promoting buy-in to proposed solutions
  • Ability to translate challenges into concrete solutions
  • Ability to support and advise business partners in analyzing their needs and finding solutions
  • Strong sense of responsibility
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement concepts and the ability to integrate them into your management
  • Agility needed to work with various technological tools
  • Knowledge of SAP software or other ERP (an asset)
