The Containerboard Packaging Group, a division of Cascades, is the largest containerboard producer in Canada, and is also a top converter of corrugated products in the country. The Group manufactures a wide range of products made from recycled fibres for its North American customers in the food, beverage and consumer products sectors, among many others. The Division, which employs close to 3,400 people, owns six containerboard mills and nineteen corrugated products plants in Canada and the United States.

Your challenge!

As a controller - relief team, you will be called upon to work closely with an experienced controller who will support you in your daily activities and involve you in ongoing matters.
You will perform tasks related to general accounting and will be involved in the preparation and analysis of monthly financial statements.
The position includes a mentoring and coaching period of approximately 2-3 years. Following the mentoring period, you will be called upon to assume the role of controller in one of our units where you will be responsible for all accounting activities.


Job Responsibilities

As a controller - relief team you will have to;

  • Prepare and execute month-end and quarter-end processes;
  • Actively participate in the preparation and analysis of financial results and balance sheets;
  • Prepare financial statements;
  • Contribute to the preparation of the budget and forecasts and ensure their follow-up;
  • Ensure the reliability and completeness of the financial information produced;
  • Monitor and share best practices in your specialty within the organization.
Business Objectives Alignment
Serve as a financial specialist and contribute to the unit’s business development, while ensuring coordination in keeping with the Group’s strategic plan
Operational Excellence
Determine and interpret the relationship between financial results and operational performance to identify improvement opportunities
Analyze operational and financial performance indicators to contribute to the unit’s decisions
Maximize use of the unit’s working capital
Help the unit’s management team implement and monitor business processes (including the budget process, analyses, and communication of internal and external financial information)
Implement financial, sales, administrative and accounting management best practices that apply to the unit
Plan and lead the reengineering of the Group’s business processes in the unit
Additional responsibilities

The project will start in one of the group's plants in St-Bruno, Vaudreuil or other cities on the South Shore of Montreal for a period of approximately 12 months.  Thereafter, the mandate will be extended to the United States.  
The candidate must be mobile at the end of their first term, in order to continue their training in another Cascades Case Packing division in Canada or the United States.

Desired experience
  • 0 to 3 years of experience in management accounting
  • Possess the accounting designation of the order of CPAs, or be in the process of obtaining it
  • Be bilingual

  • Action- and results-oriented and good at interpersonal communication
  • Be able to establish priorities to complete the various files under his responsibility
  • Knowledge of the SAP system would be an asset
Additional information


The position is not based in St-Bruno, the candidate must be mobile to travel to different plants in North America. 


The candidate must be mobile at the end of this project, in order to continue training in other Cascades divisions in Canada or the United States.
