Cascades Tissue Group, a division of Cascades Canada ULC is the second largest tissue producer in Canada and the fifth in North America.  Cascades Tissue Group offers a complete and varied range of hand towels, batch tissue, facial tissue, napkins, paper towels, wipers and dispensers in the consumer and away-from-home markets.

Your challenge!

Reporting to the Mill Manager, the Environmental and Process Engineer provides technical and managerial support to deliver desired results in accordance with mill objectives. He/She will lead Environmental Compliance activities along with supporting leaders in efforts involving safety, productivity, quality, growth, and cost reduction initiatives. This includes development and implementation of original ideas that accomplish said initiatives.  Provide relief asset lead and supervisor coverage as needed along with assisting in the management of day to day  operations

Help roll out an operational strategy in line with his unit’s business strategy

Assist with commissioning new equipment

Assist with tests carried out by the unit and support investment projects

Ensure technical support and develop relationships with business partners

Maximize synergy and foster collaboration among Cascades’ groups, units and business units

Help implement standardized manufacturing practices (One Certification) and implement equipment management best practices

Help the unit achieve its operational objectives (e.g., quality, OSH, productivity, profitability, maintenance)

Recommend and/or implement solutions to improve his unit’s manufacturing efficiency

Share best practices

Support and promote processes and tools that drive a continuous improvement culture in his unit

Develop and provide training

Take the initiative to develop his or her skills

Health & Safety

Comply with safe work standards in effect

Help develop and maintain a healthy and safe work environment for all Cascades employees

Help set OSH priorities for his unit in line with corporate objectives and follow up on them

Additional responsibilities

  • Monitor environmental activities and ensure compliance.
  • Ensure Corporate Environmental Performance Standards are met and documented.
  • Participate and ensure Environmental Management System objectives are met.
  • Maintain an environmental plan and coordinate regulatory compliance activities.
  • Ensure efficient and effective operation of the wastewater treatment systems.

Desired experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, chemistry, or a related area such as pulp and paper science, and at least three years’ experience which demonstrates process troubleshooting and analytical problem solving abilities.
  • 3-5 year experience overseeing Environmental compliance highly preferred.
  • 3-5 years of Process Engineer experience in paper mill operations is preferred.
  • Must have the ability to design and evaluate equipment and processes in terms of chemistry, control strategies, mechanical integrity, energy transfer, thermodynamics, mass transfer, and fluid dynamics.
  • Understanding of activities and procedures required for efficient and quality work completion.
  • Strong computer skills including, but not limited to a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, AS400 and SAP.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task effectively in a fast paced production setting
