RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for managing, coordinating, and supervising all activities related to the management of the plant and developing processes and tools to support and drive continuous improvement aligned with our business strategy.
  • Ensure optimal execution of operations by achieving targets in terms of Occupational, Health and Safety (OHS), production capacity, standardization of operating costs and quality.
  • Optimize activities between the various departments such as operating, manufacturing, engineering, planning, sales, maintenance, research and development.
  • Ensure compliance with Cascades’ business processes in the plant in accordance with business rules and established best practices.
  • Prepare and execute investment and asset maintenance plans, and meet return on investments targets.
  • Analyze budget requests to manage operating costs and maximize the return on assets by identifying areas in which reductions could be made and allocate appropriate budgets.
  • Engage and develop employees and ensure employees achieve established objectives.
  • Establish performance standards (availability, efficiency, OEE) in collaboration with the General Manager.
  • Lead weekly meetings with your team and SUs to analyze Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and discuss and launch required action plans.
  • Collaborate in the implementation of optimization projects specific to your unit.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with business partners and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Prepare and structure a plant-wide reliability plan and implement processes and tools to support this plan.
  • Coach the various players in the application of processes.
  • Prepare a medium-to-long-term asset maintenance plan.
  • Ensure the safety of employees by supporting and leading a rigorous safety program that promotes a “Safety is #1” culture and environment
  • Drive the strategic plan by leading the ongoing implementation of lean manufacturing best practice utilizing experience with lean methodologies and tools. 
  • Communicate, lead, and support the plan that will achieve targets in terms of production capacity, standardization of operating costs, quality, engagement and health and safety.

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE & STRENGTHS

  • Mechanical and or maintenance/reliability engineering experience.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering Technology, or related field and at least five (5) years of management work experience in the manufacturing sector.
  • Of the required experience, must have two (2) years of experience acquired in the pulp and paper industry related to tissue manufacturing in each of the following:
    • Experience leading a manufacturing department (e.g., maintenance, mechanical, operations, electrical, production, logistics, etc.).
    • Experience managing and coaching individuals.
    • Experience with safe working practices (lockout, PPE, confined space, etc.).
    • Experience with paper mill equipment, products, and new technologies.
    • Experience evaluating and implementing optimized planning and scheduling processes.
    • Experience implementing key performance indicators to monitor progress of project objectives;
    • Experience in designing and implementing complete maintenance processes with pulp and paper mills; and
    • Experience with Capital Expenditures (CapEx).
  • Travel within the United States and Canada is required up to 5% for corporate meetings, training and/or specialized conferences.
